Re: “I confess, I'm a reformed lover of the antebellum South

Your idea of southern life was GWTW! Need I say more. You and your type are the problem. Those of us that grew up here and saw first hand what cruelty was never looked at Calhoun as anything more than what he was. A historical figure. So in choosing which historical figures to destroy ... How do you choose, using your clearer vision of GWTW as your guide? How about Washington for wiping out the north eastern native Americans, or Grant and Custer for the plains natives, or Lincoln for wanting to ship all ex-slaves back to Africa or S America where would have surely had a better life. Grow up. This us our history ... Learn from it not Hollywood.

Re: “Dear Charleston, Racial justice shouldn’t require black acquiescence

I am proud of Charleston ... we are one people. Any other city / state in the union ... I would say the world that has suffered the way we have should be in flames. We are not ... we are one. That is not to say, as a family, we don't have our problems. We do. But to say that our desire to work together, to support one another, is a sign of acquiescence is to say that we are locked into some sort or moral morass. Having grown up in the Charleston of the 50s and 60s I have seen world shaking change ... without the wounds of open hostilities that have plagues so many cities. Oh God help us that we can see past the sick mind that murdered the saints at Mother Emanual and see the love the defines this city. We have a long way to go ... a long way to go ... but if you cannot see how much we have grown you are blind and for that you have my prayers and pity.
