Re: “Folly Beach Residents Report Police Harassment

Cops all over Charleston County are just like the Folly guy. Have you ever notice in Mt. Pleasant that it takes 3 cops to give a single traffic ticket? Did you watch the Christmas parade only to see a Hummer Police Car? What's up with the Mustage's? Next thing we will see is a black and white Porche and why? Trade in the nice cars and put two more undercover cops downtown. To make matters worse, law enforcement does not work in Charleston. I have lived in much large cities with never a problem. I have lived in Charleston for a little more than 2 years and twice people have attempted to mug me at gunpoint two blocks from the center of town. When I defended myself, the cops almost arrested me??? Cops that are reading my reply to this probably remember both these instances because I chased one guy down two weeks later in the Harris Teeter parking lot on East Bay two weeks after he tried to mug me. They finally arrested the right guy because they found the gun and handcuffs in his backseat, yes handcuffs. His last name is Greene and you can find his arrest online in May of 2005 if you don't believe me. You will never find anything about that arrest anywhere in papers because Charleston hides the real problems this city faces. To make matters worse, the judge let the guy off electronic monitoring. I never go downtown without a stun gun in tow. It pays to be able to protect yourself in this city, trust me. I suppose if tourists knew the risk they take walking our streets at night, they would not come. Point: Cops should focus their attention on serving and protecting us not harrassing us.
