Re: “The gentrification of Geechee

I was born & raised in Charleston & my grandfathers nickname for me was Geechee, I assume because of my drawl, does that make me ignorant, I'll spoken or not well read? I chose to think not. I never found offense with this & was/am very proud to be called Geechee. I don't believe that "well spoken" should be offensive because I have heard & referred to people of all races being "well spoken". Never assume you understand what someone means by a statement. I believe this is a common mistake we all make from time to time. Be proud of your culture, history & all that goes along with it!! If someone means to be offensive to you by their labeling of you then let that be their ugly cross to bear not yours. Best wishes & "Geechee" on 😃
