Re: “Rally for Charleston Birth Place today at 4:30

Thank you for continuing to follow this story, Paul! Those of us familiar with the work that happens at the Birth Center want to continue to see coverage on this issue until the regulation matter is resolved. Charleston Birth Place provides a unique service that is completely different than the experience offered in hospitals. Hospitals are critical parts of a maternal healthcare model, but they cannot be the only option. Supporters of Charleston Birth Place understand the improvements in women's health (and babies') that come with low-intervention, natural birth options. South Carolina lags behind most states in its record of infant and maternal health. Keeping midwife centered care available, and actively increasing access to this model, is a critical part of the strategy to improve South Carolina's health record in this area. I urge all readers to get informed on the statistics for low-risk women and the benefits of birth centers. The data will speak for itself. Challenge the DHEC regulation - Support Charleston Birth Place!
