Thought-provoking article, and much of it I agree with. There are two important corrections to note, however. Drug overdose overtook car accidents as the leading cause of accidental death in the US in 2008. Secondly, the remark that "We should end this failed drug policy so that more African-American children will have fathers to help raise them" is ludicrous. As a counselor and social worker for children for more than a decade, I can attest to you that a drug-addicted parent is usually doing more harm to their child than good. You can be a drug addict or a good parent, but you can't be both. I agree that the war on drugs has been useless and a colossal waste of funds, but to trivialize the impact of addiction on our society is also a grave mistake. The message of this article would gain validity if coming from a more objective source, as well.
