Magazines French Kiss Charleston

Lots of love for the Lowcountry

We here in Charleston are not entirely unfamiliar with getting a little love from national magazines, but it's not every day they slip us the tongue. In a report from the Charleston Wine + Food Festival, Vanity Fair noted "Charleston may be America's Paris." We don't know which Charlestonian romanced this visitor, but thanks. "It's stunning," the reporter writes. "Its standards for quality are stellar. And its self-pride is so clearly justified that one can't help but feel proud for it."

That wasn't Charleston's only print version of sexting. Forbes' latest list of the Best Retirement Places put Charleston at No. 2. The magazine notes one reason for the honor was South Carolina's special tax breaks for retirees. The write-up notes the hurricane threat, but the pros include the "lowest tax bite of all, low cost of living, agreeable climate, plenty of physicians." Considering the honor, it's not surprising that the photo for the online slideshow is of MUSC's medical towers.
