Lowcountry Oyster Festival

When: Sun., Jan. 26, 10:30 a.m. 2014
Price: $20/adv. , $25/door
We’ve all heard the saying that you should only eat oysters in months with an “r,” so it’s a good thing Boone Hall’s Lowcountry Oyster Festival happens at the end of January. And with more than 80,000 pounds of oysters, the Lowcountry Oyster Festival has you covered. This year — the fest’s 31st anniversary — it’s about the oysters, obviously, but like all good roasts, it’s also about the booze. A two-story trailer will transform into a bar with plasma TVs. And if you or your little tykes need a break, check out Pluff-A-Palooza, a kids’ area with a circus and movie theater. If you aren’t into the slimy buggers, Red’s Ice House, Hyman’s, and Black Jack BBQ will provide some other eats. In years past, traffic has blown, so this year the festival is providing free shuttles from JB Edwards Elementary School, Laing Middle School, and East Cooper Regional Medical Center beginning at 9:30 a.m.
