Lowcountry Cajun Festival

When: Sun., April 5, 12-6 p.m. 2009
Phone: (843) 795-4FUN (4386)
Price: $10, free/12 and under
Spice up your Sunday with a taste of Louisiana at the Lowcountry Cajun Fest. Steaming pots of jambalaya, alligator, étouffée, and andouille sausage will be served up by local and regional chefs along with endless amounts of crawdads for those with a shellfish fetish. And a crawdad eating contest will surely curb cravings as competitors flaunt their head-sucking talents. If you can’t handle the heat, there will be plenty of carnival-esque food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, funnel cakes, and sno-cones to cool down your tastebuds. While the adults are busy sampling the spicy cuisine and slurping down cold beers, the kids can bounce around in the inflatable playground and go on mechanical rides in the play area. And if this isn’t enough to keep the family entertained, there will be a craft market with vendors selling clothes, jewelry, and other goods. The event will also feature Louisiana musicians who made the trek to the Lowcountry to perform traditional Zydeco music throughout the day. Although admission is only $10, make sure to bring a little extra cash (or a lot depending on how much you want to eat) for food, bevs, and ride tickets that can be purchased inside the grounds. —Anna Linesch
