Logan Neitzel Trunk Show

When: Fri., Nov. 5, 7-10 p.m. and Sat., Nov. 6, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. 2010
Hampden Clothing is always looking for the next emerging designer. The King Street store carries plenty of indie brands that you can barely find anywhere else, including the designs of Project Runway contestant Logan Neitzel. When Neitzel was in town during Charleston Fashion Week 2010, Hampden owner Stacy Smallwood invited him to the shop for a trunk show, then bought his collection. They met up again at this year’s New York Fashion Week and started planning the event that Hampden is hosting this weekend. Friday night will feature a live DJ, hors d’oeuvres from FIG, and drinks from Firefly and Republic National Distribution. On Saturday, Neitzel will have a trunk show with his entire fall collection, and he’ll design specific pieces just for Hampden. He’s also going to create an art installation inside the store. “We worked in collaboration about what I think is important for our customers or what they are looking for that’s maybe missing out there, and he’s bringing it to life,” Smallwood says. “He’s got some pieces that you’ll never see again and have never seen before. It’s pretty exciting.” Smallwood doesn’t want you to feel like you can only come if you regularly shop at Hampden; she wants Friday night to be a party, a night to mingle and talk about art, fashion, design, and anything else creative — and to drink for free, she adds with a laugh. “We’re lucky to have him. We’re excited to continually be pushing the fashion envelope and to certainly bring a new vision and a new idea to Charleston,” she says. “Certainly don’t think that you’ve already met him or seen him, because this will be different.” —Susan Cohen
