Re: “Charleston Mayor Joe Riley condemns alleged racial discrimination at downtown hotel

I can believe that it wasn't a malicious encounter as it definitely was an embarrassing and unexpected one. I am of African American descent and a member of the AME Church. Bishop Norris was once over my district and he struck me as a humble man. What everyone must understand is that our church was founded on racist pretenses which may in fact have influenced many to extract an event as what happened to be racist. Although this point of view may not be 100% accurate, this is possibly why it happened. Also as I read the story I too saw the mayor's response as a way of protecting a financial deal the church has with the city. He should have checked the hotel's account of the story before condemning them. In the future I honestly think that these type of events should be investigated thoroughly before being commented on in such a public way as an Annual Conference with the intent of swaying people to think a racist event occurred when in fact it can be proven to be something less than that.
