LLF Oyster Roast and Chili Eatin'

When: Fri., Jan. 20, 6-9 p.m. 2012
Price: $20/members, $25/nonmembers
Locals know the rules: If the month’s got an “R” in it, then you’ve got to eat oysters, and we’re more than willing to do that in celebration of Local Lowcountry First’s fifth birthday, which they’ll mark with all-you-can-eat oysters on the deck of the Charleston Crab House on James Island. With chili and live bluegrass music from the Rusty Hook Ramblers, this party is going down on the Wappoo in support of the Growing New Farmers Apprentice Program and Incubator Farm, the organic farms that dot the Lowcountry from Johns Island to Wadamalaw. Through apprenticeships and access to affordable farmland, Lowcountry Local First has created a group of farmers whose produce may very well grace the table at your next meal. According to LLF Executive Director Jamee Haley, buying local is not just a trend, and supporting local farms is “the most sustainable economic development plan that there is.” A $20-$25 ticket feeds you and the agricultural community for seasons to come.
