Designed as a benefit for the Charleston Parks Conservancy, the Leap Back to the ’90s party features a concert by veteran pop vocal group Color Me Badd. The Oklahoma-born quartet signed with Giant Records in 1990 and quickly rose to the top of the charts with a steamy debut single title “I Wanna Sex You Up.” The single set the stage for Color Me Badd’s debut album, C.M.B., which sold over 3 million copies and spawned the follow-up hits“All 4 Love,” “Thinkin’ Back,” and “Slow Motion.” The production of “I Wanna Sex You Up” featured sampled beats and instrumental lines from Doug E. Fresh, Betty Wright, and the Brothers Johnson. Blender magazine ranked it at #40 on its list of the “50 Worst Songs Ever” while VH1 listed it in the “100 Greatest Songs of the ’90s.” It remains Color Me Badd’s all-time most recognized pop hit of the decade. Three of the four original singers — Bryan Abrams, Mark Calderon, and Kevin Thornton — will headline the show at the Memminger Auditorium with a backing band. Regular admission includes an open bar. Show time is 7 p.m.
