Re: “Praising Arizona

'Does your statement, "You put too much faith in the legal system using appropriate discretion when applying, or wanting to apply, this law. I don't. I've seen too many instances of corrupt cops committing acts of violence only to be slapped on the wrist and put back on patrol to continue their cycle of abuse (thanks, in most part, to their union)." also apply to government institutions implementing new health care policies?'

Yes, it does. Freedom is an absolute. Either you are free, or you are not free. Forcing me, or anyone else, to purchase a product at the point of a gun, is immoral. Expecting the government to handle it in an appropriate, and reliable manner is just plain stupid.

@factoryconnection - You put too much faith in the legal system using appropriate discretion when applying, or wanting to apply, this law. I don't. I've seen too many instances of corrupt cops committing acts of violence only to be slapped on the wrist and put back on patrol to continue their cycle of abuse (thanks, in most part, to their union).

If they want to ask you for your papers, they will find probable cause. Again, it is not about how illegals are treated, it is about how fellow American citizens could be treated.

This law is ripe for abuse, and here is what can happen:

We Can Make Him Disappear http://yournews.com/copyroom/mynews.asp?zi…

Rachel Maddow coverage of Indefinite Detention (not a big fan of Rachel, but she does hit this issue dead on) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uuWVHT1WUY

You can be declared a Non-person - http://original.antiwar.com/fisher/2009/12…

Open season on American citizens by the government - http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_gr…

-----

If you can't see it, then there is no point in discussing it further.

And looking at your previous posts, I gather you are anything but an anarchist (of any flavor). This is more in line of what I think you are - http://www.lewrockwell.com/alston/alston65…

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I have no problem admitting so

Re: “Praising Arizona

factoryconnection - My concern isn't necessarily about the illegals entering this country, it for my freedom and liberty as an American citizen. On average, Americans unwittingly commit three felonies a day. According to this AZ law, the police cannot simply walk up to you and demand your papers. If they want to know, they will find a way to pin an infraction on you then demand to see your papers. I'm sorry, but I'm no longer willing to give up any more of my freedom and liberty only so you can feel safe. For those of you who might ask, "What do you have to hide?" I have my dignity.

You Tea Party folks need to realize that you cannot have it both ways. Freedom is an absolute. You are either free, or you are not free. You cannot jump around waving Gadsden flags demanding freedom and liberty for yourselves while imposing tyranny on others. It will only defeat your purpose in the long run.

I feel for the folks living on the border, but we need to come up with practical solutions like, perhaps, ending the failed, horribly expensive, war on drugs, ending welfare, and streamlining the immigration process (No country simply let's people in, but I've noticed that most countries don't have as an oppressive immigration policy as the U.S.).
