Kulture Klash

When: Sat., Nov. 7, 8 p.m. 2009
Price: $20, $15 (adv.)

Every year Kulture Klash ups the ante, and it’s no different for their fifth installment. Expect over 50 artists to display pieces using creative materials like glue, nails, bike parts, and so much more. A 4x30 foot canvas will be painted by 15 artists during the six-hour party — enjoy the collaboration and maybe take home a slice of this masterpiece for yourself. The “Starving Artists” show forces eight different artists to starve themselves for five days in order to see how it affects their creative process.

In the same room as the fasting painters will be a small spoken word stage where poetry battles are encouraged by local poet Marcus Amaker. The Chain Ring Circus celebrates all things bike with bike polo, art, movies, and racing. Live music will scintillate all parts of your brain with metal (Dante’s Camaro), robot music (Short Shorts), and
neo-vaudeville (The V-Tones).

In response to some complaints at past events, organizers have promised quicker lines, cold water, and well-lit potties. New Belgium Brewery and Social Wine Bar will provide the beverages while D’Allesandro’s will serve their legendary pies. Want to check out the art in a more laid-back setting? There will be a free artists reception on Friday from 8-11 p.m. Brace yourself for what promises to be a memorable klash. —Patrick McGinn
