Re: “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

I saw this last night and it was a fun show to see. As an added bonus, you can now park in the lot right across from the theatre for just $5. It is super convenient if you don't live downtown.

Re: “The Charleston Lie

This narrow minded view is not limited to the tourism industry. I have heard transplants make similar comments about areas of the peninsula.

Re: “A few school board members are not acting in the best interest of our students

I agree with you, MsTrulyBlessed. There are a few schools in this district that have a solid approach to education--their impossibly long waiting lists are evidence of that. Why aren't we fighting for more schools like Buist? Why must a good education be the luck of a lottery draw?

Ginjet, you make a lot of good points. Our teachers are teaching to the test because that is how their performance is measured. Mt. Pleasant schools look good on paper, but they too are teaching to the test. Not a whole lot of critical thinking going on in the classroom. PASS testing is something that is "studied for." In my day, assessments were just that--an assessment of what you know. Not an exam that you cram for in the weeks leading up to the test.

We have a broken system and the responsibility for fixing it rests on the entire community.

Re: “Will Charleston complete its vision of a bike-friendly peninsula?

Earl, to your point, London also has a massive public transportation system, making it much easier to get around without a car. I wholeheartedly support the idea of a bike friendly community, but that alone will not cut down on the traffic problems downtown. We need to also embrace public transportation.
