Re: “Review: Male leads take the spotlight in Threshold's The Crucible

I am from Florida and was visiting Charleston. I have been over this play many times and if you read it you will find that Elizabeth has been sick since having her baby and her life was falling around her. The only strong front she had was her faith. No she is not strong but angry, hurt and out of a sick bed. No sir I don't know Erin Murphy although she is an award winning actress from Florida, and known there for musicals. I am a character actor and that is how I have heard of her. I however teach theater as well and I wrote that comment to complete the original which only told half the story. At least you wrote a comment I wish more people would. No hard feelings at all if we disagree. People around me were crying and I stood with some by me, just at the end of the call, not a standing ovation. Agree or not that is what a critic and a review is about. The great thing about live theatre is interpertation of the plot, and we have two different views. It is up to the director to decide how the actors portray a charactor. It is all about interpertation. At least we commented. God speed.

Re: “Review: Male leads take the spotlight in Threshold's The Crucible

I read the article again after writing my comment, and thought it would be and injustice not to add that the relationship between John Procter and Abigal is the cause of the action, but the relationship is over by the time the show begins in the eyes of John Procter. Abigal is the antagonist. The story is about the man John Procter and his redemtion and relationship to his wife Elizabeth. The main story is about John and Elizabeth and the fact that because of John's indiscretion with Abigal it all begins. Will Hodges who play's John, and Erin Murphy who play's his wife Elizabeth play true to form, and created the chemistry that reached its height in the last scene which brought the audiance to their feet, and tears to the eyes of those around me.

I saw the play and although the men were as good as Mr. Smallwood says the actress Erin Murphy who played Elizabeth Procter was incredible. The emotion she displayed had several folks around me actually crying with her. This play is very good. I have been in theater and TV for many years, and well you need to see this cast for yourselves.
