Re: “Congressional apology for slavery was completely illogical

You guys seem to be on the outside of racism, race relations and economic hardships.Sitting comfortably looking in at the uncomfortable.

I'm a white man in Alabama, living in the projects.I experience this debate almost daily, from both sides.Racism is as malignant as ever, only it has reversed.I recently applied for rent assistance at the local community service and was AGAIN turned down due to a shortage of funds. This perplexed my landlady as she recieves monthly checks from C.S. on behalf of more than a dozen black families. These families only have to apply monthly and it's granted. They apply each month and are awarded each month. The same families.

The depairity is shocking considering these are working families, with jobs, that are being assisted based on their race. With 2 working adults,in most cases, they have no reason to be living in low rent projects to begin with.I'm disabled, with no job,and being turned down based on my race.I feel as if I'm being pushed out of my own state because of my race.

The apology is laughable at best, considering that Brazil imported more African slaves than anyone on earth.North Africa is number 2 on this list of nations that imported slaves.I hear no demands for apologies from these other nations.Whats up with that?
White America should be ashamed of our use of slaves, but rather than silly apologies or expensive reparations to people who may not even be decended from slaves,we should concentrate our recources to abolishing modern day slavery. This is as simple as refusing to buy goods from the countries that still utilize slave labour such as China,India,Africa,Mexico and most of the middle east.Every time you take advantage of the cheap junk sold by THE big retailer in our country, perhaps you should think of the slave labour that produces that junk, and dream of a return to American industrial self sufficiency.
