As your comment suggests, it may well be that several decades (if we're lucky) here and now is all that we get and there is no hope for anything outside of that. Fair enough. That still leaves wide open the question of what to do with the time that we have.

Human beings need some sense of meaning and purpose in life. If you would like to call that need for meaning a byproduct of evolution, fine by me. The need is there just the same and it has to be fed in some manner.

Thus, while Karen's book is largely about an internal conflict within modern American Christianity, it also addresses issues that extend far outside the confines of that faith.

In short: if our need for meaning and purpose is not fed, we tend to become bitter and resentful, lashing out at others (this is not a good thing, by the way).

I'm sorry if the review was not clear to you, but I encourage you to read the book that Ms. Zacharias wrote because it essentially says exactly what you just said.
