Re: “Violent crime in South Carolina

no one works harder than some of our public school teachers, and their efforts should not go unnoticed! however, it is the system itself - a vast, confused bureaucracy at the city, county, state, and even federal levels - that fails us. the answer is always to hire more bureaucrats, more administrators, institute more tests and more rules (to ensure that Every child is left behind), when all we're really doing is tying ourselves up in red tape. charleston county school district is one of the top employers in this town, and it's time we fessed up to this machine's top priority: jobs. stop sending money on bigger and bigger schools, designed like prisons, not just for students, but for teachers, too! successful schools are always small, with parents who care. in this kind of environment, kids actually learn, and no rules are needed! when will we learn that children will always live up to our expectations of them?

Re: “Ravenel's cocaine arrest lacks local response

"No, this is not Pakistan or Iraq. But an elected statewide official getting busted for handing out cocaine isn't "lurid gossip" or a "tawdry" diversion." duh. but what else is there to report? it's been covered. when the state paper wastes more and more space to rehash, then yes, it boils down to nothing but gossip. we might as well recycle the latest about lindsey lohan. again. at least she's interesting. unless something new changes about the story, why don't we worry about some real issues. yes, wasting taxpayers' $$$, why our prez is throwing the latest hobgoblin at us (oh, i mean pakistan...or is it iran this time?), and this so-called drug war should be some of them. these are all topics that could do with a lively debate. hear, hear, bread and circus. instead, our sc journals are pondering that age-old question: to fear-monger or to gossip-monger? i always count on the cp to be too smart to take the bait. btw, thanks for keeping the non-fox news community alive. peace.

Re: “Ravenel's cocaine arrest lacks local response

the newsless discourager only focuses on non-news and never gives us the real issues. since ravenel's coke habit is just that, more lurid gossip than print-worthy news, it does seem surprising that they're not covering it. the better question is: why isn't the p+c concerned with, oh i don't know, reporting actual unbiased news? why isn't anything important on the front page? because: they're the post and courier. what do you expect? p.s. the state is hardly a newspaper to emulate. c'mon, city paper, we rely on you for the Real News! quit the gossip mongering and give us something worth the ink.

Re: “Working for a living

thanks, mr. blakeney, for your article. it's about time the media reported on the working poor. class issues always get swept under the rug with lines like america being a classless society. if only it actually were.
