Singer/guitarist Amber Valentine and drummer Ed Livengood tried to form a full-sized rock band in their earliest days together in Athens, Ga., but they realized their strongest approach was simply as a powerfully-amplified hard rock duo. Nowadays, 15 years into their career, Jucifer maintains a uniquely nomadic rock ’n’ roll lifestyle, touring the country in a huge RV, performing in small venues and music halls with an oversized acrylic drum kit and a teetering wall-of-sound stack of guitar amps and cabinets. Amber and Ed return to their favorite local haunt — the Village Tavern — on Friday night in support of their recent album L’Autrichienne (Relapse/Alternative Tentacles). “It is the culmination of all Jucifer has led us to expect: thoughtful, sonically satisfying beyond belief, a spell-binding ride through every facet of human emotion,” say the Relapse folks. “It’s beautiful, it’s terrifying, it rocks.” —T.
