Re: “FILM REVIEW: Rendition

Is this a film review or a platform for poltical rhetoric? I check in on the Charleston City Paper from time to time but never before had I felt compelled to post a comment in response to anything I'd read. You see, I was one of the original writers when Charleston's weekly was founded more than a decade ago. In fact, I was the film critic during those early days ...not that I'd expect anyone to recall. Heck, why would you? As I was saying, I check in from time to time, and have been quite impressed by just how far the City Paper has come - one might even say proud in an odd sort of way. That being said, I was jolted by the condescending and lecturing tone of the "review" (though it barely deserves to be called that)for RENDITION. MaryAnn, (as a former City Paper scribe I'll take the liberty of referring to you by your first name)perhaps you should stick to reviewing the films as oppose to lecturing your audience on how vastly superior you seem to think your knowledge is when it comes to civil rights and the plight of the oppressed in the great U.S. of A. I've lived in Charleston and written film reviews for the City Paper and while I'm proud of that period in my life, I'm also acutely aware that it hardly made me an expert on anything, particularily whats going on throughout the rest of the country or world. Stick to what you know until you gain the knowledge that there exists a grey area out in the real world that you clearly have not yet wrapped your head around. Please refrain from bogging down the City Paper with your own ill-informed agenda in the meantime. Thanks
