the simple truth is that if not for the greed of a black man named Anthony Johnson who fought in court to keep the black people who signed 7yr indentured servant contracts with him for life; slavery would never have existed in America at all.

Please also ignore the facts that thousands of free blacks enslaved many thousands more black slaves in every state and territory north and south. In Charleston alone black households (35% of them to be exact) owned well over 4,000 black slaves before the war. At the height of slavery only 33% of whites in the south owned slaves...but let's show our unending hatred for white people every chance we can! Thankfully the US census can't be rewritten like history has been.

4 states and several territories were all pro-slavery and fought for the union. Slavery was phasing itself out because attitudes and economies were changing. Several confederate generals did not own slaves, nor did they believe in slavery.

It's unbelievable how people can be so completely self absorbed to try to make a civil war about them when they weren't important to either side of the conflict.
