Re: “Nina Anashiavili Mesmerizes a Prince and her Audience in Giselle

I saw the Saturday performance. Either Charlestonians truly are the politest audiences on the planet or they know absolutely nothing about ballet. Saturday’s performance was pitiful. Yes Nina was excellent but I have never seen so many sloppy mistakes in a professional troop. People were snickering in the audience at the mistakes. The ensemble work in the first act was truly pitiful. It looked like it was their first rehearsal.
The male lead only danced ONE number and it was a minute at best. Otherwise he just pranced around doing pantomime. What a joke. I guess they just skipped his numbers because of the injury and replaced it with his painfully long scenes of him just walking back and forth across the stage with a mournful expression in laughable melodramatic pantomime.
At intermission we talked to 5 others that were contemplating leaving because of poor performance.
Yet Charleston audiences give a standing ovation---we were in shock. They needed another month of rehearsal at the least….made us really appreciate the talent of our own Charleston Ballet

Re: “Gate Theatre puts new Dock Street seats to the test

I attended the dress rehearsal of Flora on Tuesday.
Beautiful theatre. Painful chairs!

The seats were horrific! Everyone in the balcony was squirming and shifting around about 45 minutes in. I heard many people complaining as they walked out. Miserable.

Someone really screwed up this one.
