Perhaps the greatest problem with the arguing over the Civil War is that each person begins by applying 21st Century Morality, Worldview, Anthropology, and notions of social justice on a world that had not yet arrived there in most places. Slavery, while abhorrent, was common among most of the world's population; both white and non-white.

It seems that some people want to diminish the role of slavery in this nation's history including in leading to the Civil War to far; and others want to tear down everyone associated with this Nation's founding because of something they said or did; portraying them as no better than the worst of humanity. It is an effort in futility and does nothing to push forward the conversation.
