Mr. Dad, With all due respect, I don't think that authenticity has much to do with it -- I believe my opinions surrounded quality versus price. Since you mused about "qualifications", I thought I'd share my little taco adventure. I understand that you want to support your son, but I think you're being a bit unfair here. I wrote about what I thought was good and bad at Uno Mas (which is my job), and I didn't harbor any bias. If anything, I was inclined to be more positive because of my appreciation for Mr. Parco's other establishments. My opinion has been shared by numerous other posters in these comments, and if Uno Mas is a good restaurant they will pay attention to such crtiticism and seek to become better than before. On the other hand, when the place is packed every night, regardless of what one critic might spout, what incentive is there to change? I have to believe that your attacks are more related to your familial connection than my journalistic standards. For the record, I don't eat at Taco Bell.

I call them like I see them -- and certainly no where near as jaded as the chef's own dad might -- but if you want to read more about Charleston's authentic Mexican food, surf on over to our summer dining guide at: and check out my article on the North Chuck taco scene. There is much more than stinky ole' La Ha and Taco Bell going on with Mexican grub in the Charleston area. I recommend that all Mexican food lovers beat a quick path to Los Parados on Ashley Phosphate.
