Jazz at Halls Chophouse: Duende

When: Sun., May 29, 4:30-6 p.m. 2011
Phone: (866) 811-4111

Jazzy Latin grooves hit King Street. A newly-formed Latin-jazz trio brings a fiery set of swing, bossa nova, samba, and various other styles to Piccolo's new Jazz at Halls Chophouse series on King Street.

This ain't lazy lounge music. With Cristobal Cisneros on guitar, sax, and vocals, Gino Castillo on percussion and vocals, and Tommy Gill on piano and vocals, Duende! is an all-star combo capable of veering into wild jams and passionate renditions of fun standards. They cover the bases, from Mexico and Brazil to Cuba and beyond. Castillo's arsenal of hand percussion, shakers, and bells add a sense of "ardiente" and authenticity.

Just dance. Duende! made a splash this year with Fernando Rivas handling the keys. Their spicy blend of styles and high level of technique wowed local jazz fans. Attendees might have no other choice but to loosen up and get crazy-eyed in the elegant bar room at Halls.
