Andrew, I respect your opinion, your track record and your passion and I am not ignoring anything you outlined. I am not suggesting that the District shouldn't look at doing more with less from an administrative stand point (that's good business) but by and large those positions are important and to suggest otherwise flies in the face of what it requires to operate a half billion organization. Putting hard working administrators on "blast" having never walked in their shoes does nothing positive for anyone.

My commentary was not an indictment about any one candidate or slate of candidates and it was not an endorsement of the current Board or administration. Again, I do not speak for CCSD but I can tell you that there are many within the District that are not satisfied with the disparities that exist and believe we can and will do more. As Bratton Riley accurately noted in his FB comment to me, the data suggests we have a ton of work ahead of us but one of the points of my commentary is that if we continue to have Board members join the Board (regardless of which coalition they belong to) and continue to vilify the administration, or pit administrators against teachers, we will see NO progress. I can say that because I have participated in over 2400 hours of Board meetings during my time at CCSD (yes, I calculated it). I have seen the bickering, the backstabbing and personal agendas take center stage while the important questions about teacher compensation and racial inequities were marginalized. I have also seen the Board and the Administration work together to accomplish some important tasks. I am not suggesting that there are individuals on the current Board that don't care about these issues because they do. As a Board, they must unite and pick one or two issues to focus on and then direct all their efforts to that challenge AND work in partnership with the Administration. It is very difficult to work with an Administration if you think a large majority of those in those positions are expendable. What we need right now are leaders who have the ability to bring people together and if they do not possess that ability -- it doesn't matter what their credentials or resume look like.

While I cannot speak for every department, I can tell you that as of today, we are serving more students from Title I schools now than we did a few years ago and those students are receiving a higher quality after school experience because we are integrating STEM, 21st Century skills, and social-emotional learning into our programs. We are also serving more non Title I students. Access and equal opportunity to high quality after school programs has been the teams focus for quite some time. This doesn't happen when people put their head in the sand and ignore issues. It happens when a team rolls up their sleeves and gets to work regardless of the system or Board or other outside pressures.
