As a matter of fact I know plenty of people who hunt with an ar-15, and they're mostly women. Fact is it has a low recoil so it doesn't "kick" like a traditional. 308 or .270 and such. And before you say you don't need 30 rounds to take down an animal, you're only gonna get 1 possibly 2 shots before it runs off. While I chose to use a more traditional hunting rifle, my wife choses her ar, her own personal preference, which has been outfitted with a long range scope making it only practical for 1 shot at a time. In closing, as long as you're hunting from a safe elevation you're always pointing down, making the .223 as safe as any other high powered rifle. Btw, they still only fire 1 shot at a time. I think most people's bias on these machines comes from the misconception that they are fully automatic, when in reality unless someone has modified it, it's still 1 round per pull of the trigger.
