Price: $12/advance, $15/gate, $50/VIP, Free/12 and under
There aren’t many art venues quite like the Old City Jail. In fact, there aren’t any at all locally. And that’s why Jail Break exists: to give local artists and musicians the chance to showcase their work in such a unique space. In its second year, the event will last all afternoon and well into the evening, meaning there will be twice as many bands and artists participating as there were in 2010. “We learned that the success of the first Jail Break was the result of involving as much of the community as we could,” says Andrew Walker, one of Jail Break’s organizers. “Given that we extended the duration of the event and more space is available in the jail, we have reached out to even more artists and substantially extended our programming.” The day features dance pieces from Dancefx and Annex Dance Company, multimedia installations, demonstrations from students of the American College of the Building Arts (one of Jail Break’s co-hosts), live music from the Hungry Monks, the Brillers, Weigh Station, Elise Testone and the Freeloaders, Shovels and Rope, and Entropy Ensemble (the other co-host), and more. There will also be drinks and food from Home Team BBQ. An after-party, free with a ticket stub, will be held at Leaf with music from Ryan Bonner and friends.
