Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk w/ The Lee Boys, Holedwellers

When: Sat., Feb. 27 2010
Price: $15 (adv.)
It’s been a good year for New Orleans. Two months in, and the Big Easy’s already toasting their Super Bowl Saints. Dumpstaphunk timed their tour well, slipping into town for Fat Tuesday after a West Coast run, then scooting on up the Atlantic seaboard. Lent may be upon us, but don’t count on Ivan Neville and crew to be giving anything up for the fasting season when they hit S.C. With dual bass thumpers Nick Daniels and Tony Hall (also of the Trey Anastasio Band) holding down the low end, Raymond Weber on drums (another Trey band alum), and Ian Neville on guitar, Dumpstaphunk makes a solid argument for the label of “funkiest band in New Orleans.” As if that wasn’t enough to seal the deal, the Pour House also booked sacred steel band The Lee Boys for the Saturday night gig — band that dropped a total of 13 bass strings on the venue their last trip through town, when Allman Brothers bassist Oteil Burbridge joined them on stage. Count on pedal steel extraordinaire Roosevelt to get in on the action with the Dumpsta boys. Who dat say dey gonna get phunky? —Stratton Lawrence
