Lynn Richardson is a Canadian-born artist who specializes in installations. Their size, shape, and color, delicately referencing contemporary architecture and technology, make them look flamboyantly futuristic. Richardson has taken the silhouettes of clunky oil drills and made them look svelte in “Remapping the Northwest Passage.” She has plasticized fruit in a glacier greenhouse for “Icehouse.” And she’s created a giant forest of redwood test tubes for “Red State.” Now she’s turned her attention to Redux, where she is creating a site-specific installation called Inside the Fence. The show will feature sculptural and mechanical forms inspired by Smart Home technology. According to Redux Executive Director Karen Myers, motion detectors will illuminate and darken spaces as viewers enter and leave them; if nobody wants to interact with the installation, it will remain silent and do nothing. So it’ll either be an engaging show or a really dark, quiet one, depending on how adventurous you’re feeling. But the installation promises to be a memorable combination of sound, light, and concept from an award-winning, inventive contemporary artist. —Nick Smith
