Throw some cheese on it

Southern Scorpion Promotions and Cory’s Grilled Cheese have teamed up for a night of mixed genre music and unlimited grilled cheese and fountain soda. With a modest-sized venue like Cory’s, guests will be able to get up close and personal to each performer, with the talent ranging from rap to indie to bluegrass. “I started booking shows so that I could bring more diverse acts to light rather than the same genres being booked over and over again,” says owner and promotions manager of Southern Scorpion Promotions Haylow Black. “I like mixed genre shows because I, personally, like to put music on shuffle. I can’t listen to the same genre consistently.” This show is sure to bring an eclectic lineup with former high school teacher Jonathan Brown, reciting slam poetry over a backtrack, indie band Orange Doors, Pinkerton and the Brinks breaking it down on the banjo, and Wayne Goin’ Hampleton performing art rap, a hip-hop style that intends to elevate the genre to high art. “I don’t like limits and I don’t like boundaries,” says Black. Clearly, limits are not an obstacle at this event — all guests will have access to endless grilled cheese and soda with the price of admission. If you miss out on this group of talented and diverse artists, check back for Southern Scorpion Promotions’ monthly poetry show at Cory’s with the same all-you-can-eat grilled cheese deal.
