Light up the night

Chamber Music Charleston is kicking off their season with a concert featuring actors, special lighting and imagery, and some guest musicians. Karen Kim, a violinist, and Andrew Armstrong, a pianist, will be joining the rest of the Chamber Music Charleston gang. The night features three pieces, Nocturne for Flute and String Quartet by Arthur Foote, the Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D Major by Johann Sebastian Bach, and the Piano Quartet in G Minor by Johannes Brahms. All of these pieces have Romantic tones, but the Brandenburg Concerto is the only piece from the Baroque era, and it’s the one where Andrew Armstrong will try his hands on the harpsichord. Sandra Nikolajevs, the President and artistic director of Chamber Music Charleston tells us that the musicians will be “capturing the transitions from dusk through night time, with imagery from the Hubble Telescope, ending with the glorious rising of the sun,” during these three pieces. Clarence Felder and Chris Weatherhead from the Actors Theatre of South Carolina will be performing poetry by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow between pieces
