Rebekah Jacob Gallery and Redux Contemporary Art Center are teaming up to present new works by nationally-known, locally-based artist Tim Hussey. After recently exhibiting at Shepard Fairey’s Subliminal Projects Gallery in L.A., as well as Art Basel in Miami, Hussey is sure to have some excellent work in store for the Charleston community. In the words of Fairey himself, what characterizes Hussey’s new work is a “tension between the abstract elements such as brush strokes, drips, amorphous color shapes, and the ghosts of figurative elements that are obscured, erased, obliterated, unfinished, or otherwise only hinting at narrative.” We’d say an endorsement from Mr. “Obey” is not something to take lightly. Hussey is known for his intriguing combination of mixed mediums, such as house paint, oil sticks, ballpoint pen, and wax pencil. Through various forms of illustration, figure painting, and pure abstraction, Hussey has become prominent in the art world for his untidy format and chaotic texture. Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to Hussey discuss his process and most recent works, access his studio, and engage in a following Q&A and reception. Don’t forget to check out Hussey’s latest works currently on view at Rebekeh Jacob Gallery (169 King St). —Nick Rosser
