Hurricane Party

When: Fri., Sept. 18 2009
Phone: (843) 971-0131
Price: $50

We’re more than overdue for the next Hugo, so we might as well drink and be merry while we’re not underwater. East Cooper Community Outreach hosts their annual hurricane party with that in mind. The organization began 20 years ago in the aftermath of Hugo’s devastation. Originally it was an ad hoc ecumenical organization designed to provide emergency relief for natural disasters but has now expanded its mission to helping anyone in emergency need of anything from food to dental care. Come prepared to dance up a storm as Orangeburg band Mighty Kicks will be playing their soulful tunes. The main event of the evening will be the silent auction, with featured items like a Baja scooter for cruising around the city and an all-expense-paid croquet and cocktails day at the swank Daniel Island Club. Heavy apps will be compliments of Cru Catering, and there will be an open bar featuring, of course, hurricanes. Tickets prices range from the “Eye of the Hurricane,” a $10,000 sponsorship, to $50 individual tickets. Make a toast to the so-far uneventful hurricane season — fingers crossed. —Patrick McGinn
