Howie Day w/ Jay Clifford, Serena Ryder

When: Fri., Feb. 19 2010
Price: $20
A melody-minded songwriter from Bangor, Maine, Howie Day never quite fit the bill as a folkie or as a modern popster. He was perhaps too forward-thinking for the strummy traditionalism of the folk scene, and a bit too lyrically clever and smart for the shiny stylings of contemporary pop. Over the last 10 years, he’s carved his own niche as a serious (and humorously romantic) songwriter. Day released a debut disc titled Australia in 2000, which landed him a deal with Sony Music. His 2002 track “Ghost” became a hit on modern rock radio. “Collide” followed in 2003 and became a Top 40 hit. After a recent hiatus from touring and recording, Day recorded and released Sound the Alarm in 2009. Day and his band headline the Farm on Friday with support from Charleston singer/songwriter Jay Clifford (formerly of Jump) and Canadian-born singer/songwriter and Juno Award-winner Serena Ryder. Doors open at 8 p.m. —T. Ballard Lesemann
