The sun is going down early, but James Island County Park is keepin’ Charleston lit. They’re kicking off their massive holiday light display with a non-competitive fun run/walk on Thursday. The two-mile course will lead participants around the park and showcase Santa, Rudolph, the elves, and any other Christmas scene you can imagine. After reaching the finish line, runners and walkers will be rewarded with a first go at the festival’s amenities. Make sure you show up early, as the park will be closed to traffic at 6:30 p.m. The park is open to the general driving public starting Friday, with millions of lights as well as marshmallow roasts, train rides, the enchanted forest walking trail, and more. It’s actually the Festival of Lights’ 20th anniversary, so starting Dec. 1, they’ll be hosting various events and entertainers during the first 20 days in December. —Marina Fleming
