Hippodrome will return

The venue gets new owners, new outlook

If you’ve been bemoaning the closure of the Hippodrome Theater at the end of last year, you won’t have to wait very long before you can catch flicks downtown again.

The space has been sold to Lonnie Knight (owner of Knight Vision Productions) and local attorney Akim Anastopoulo (a former Best of Charleston winner and Carolina Film Alliance board member and owner of Hollywood SC Studios), according to the Post and Courier.

It will now be called Hippodrome Widescreen Cinema and Performing Arts Center, featuring first-run movies and other events, like Good Times star and comedian Jimmie Walker on Jan. 13.
