Lately, Camden Bowen, a member of a local unofficial Hell Bounders Car Club chapter, has been a little preoccupied with more pressing matters than a screwed-up crankshaft. His long-time friend J. Brian Flathman has been suffering with kidney disease for the past 11 years and is now getting ready to face his third kidney operation. So Bowen decided to throw a huge Memorial Day bash to raise funds for his friend’s operation. Hell Bounders Car Club Memorial Day Car and Bike Show will feature a classic car and motorcycle show, with entries coming in from all over the country, hoping to win the best in show cash prize. There will also be a silent lowbrow art auction and live music from Ghostwitch Family Band, The Go Devils, The Defilers, Jason & The Juggernauts, Ritchie Mars & The Big Dipper, Whisly 'n; Ramblin', and Hick’ry Hawkins. Local label Cavortress will have a vintage-inspired swimsuit show at 6 p.m. “Street meets sweet for a modern spin on vintage favorites,” says designer Julie Wheat. “And retro swimwear is hard to find, so I’m filling the fashion gap, many designed specially for this event.” Stephanie Addison of St. Jane Photography will also hold a pinup girl contest as well. The top three winners will receive a free pinup shoot along with other fun prizes. “We’re just regular blue-collar people working on hot rods ... keeping the American icon alive,” says Bowen. —Christina Janke
