The power of touch

On the heels of our yoga cover story, we here at the City Paper can't stop thinking about all things, well, yoga. Local studios are always hosting cool guests and new events, so we figured we'd spotlight one that's particularly piqued our interest — the healing practice of Reiki.

According to reiki.org (yes), "Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by 'laying on hands' and is based on the idea that an unseen 'life force energy' flows through us and is what causes us to be alive."

Pretty cool right? OK, so maybe you're not drinking the juice yet, but it doesn't hurt to try new things. On Fri. Aug. 25 from 7-9 p.m. head to Holy Cow Yoga for a free (donations are accepted, though) Reiki mandala circle, a gathering of people already into or interested in learning more about Reiki.

You don't have to register in advance but head to the studio's website if you want more info. In the meantime check out some Reiki healing below. You can also head to several Reiki locations throughout Charleston like Bodhi Tree Charleston, Charleston Reiki & Tarot, In Touch Massage Bodywork & Reiki, and a number of other massage and wellness spas in the area.
