Grooming for the Gulf

Get your dog's haircut and donate the clippings to help oil clean-up

Who knew that hair would be the answer to the oil spill crisis? If you've been thinking about giving your dog a summer shave or getting your hair touched up, get to it, and you can help clean up this nasty mess that’s spreading throughout the waters in the Gulf of Mexico.

Donated hair is stuffed into recycled nylon stockings to make oil-absorbing booms. It can also be woven into mats that can be rung out and used over and over again, up to one hundred times. Hair is the answer to our problem! Only thing, we need lots of it.

So get your clippers out and give your dog some attention. There are several local groomers that are donating your pets’ freshly cut hair to the Gulf Coast Hair for Oil Program. Head here for more information and a list of groomers.

Get your kids and husband while you’re at it.
