The City Paper has a little tradition that we look forward to every year. One day out of the year, we throw caution to the wind, take an extended lunch on a Friday (which, if you knew anything about our deadlines, is a huge deal), pack into a couple of cars, and head over to Race Street for gyros and bouzouki music. We love the Greek Fest, hosted every year by the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. While we procrastinate, we like to chow down on mousaka, spanakopita, and baklava; freshen up with a cup of Greek coffee; listen to tunes from A Night in Athens; watch the folk dancers; browse the marketplace; take a tour of the church; and, if the bosses aren’t looking, enjoy a cold Greek beer. It’s the best part of the job. Though the festival does extend through Sunday, so there’s really no reason for us to skip work. But don’t tell anyone I said that.
