In its seventh year, the Greater Charleston Lowcountry Jazz Festival continues to impress with its ability to bring in great talents from around the world. Setting up shop at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center throughout Labor Day weekend, the event is both a cultural occasion and the primary fundraiser for Closing the Gap in Health Care, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to decreasing health disparities and increasing health literacy, especially among the African-American community. That noble mission is enhanced by the lineup. Grammy Award-nominated multi-instrumentalist Gerald Albright is set to play the closing concert, and each night is packed with talent. Of particular note is sax player BK Jackson, who will be returning to Charleston on Sept. 10 to perform in Trombone Shorty’s Orleans Avenue band at the Music Farm. Here fans will receive a chance to catch the world-class musician play a rare solo show. —Isaac Weeks
