Re: “Let's not let Charleston become Myrtle Beach

Your article tends to stray from objective reporting. My understanding of the Myrtle Beach rallies is that there are two rallies; one on the orderly side of the law and one not. I will give you that many motorcyclists (not bikers) do have loud exhausts. The general public is tired of the noise and laws are being enacted all over the nation to correct the problem. Motorcyclists will eventually get the message that loud pipes will get you a ticket.

If you think all motorcycle rallies are bad you might contact the city officials of Muskegon, Michigan. A couple years ago they put on a rally in the downtown. The event was well policed and laws enforced. The city took an active part in assuring the rally was well contained within the provisions established. I have been to two and have enjoyed both. It is a great area to ride. People are friendly and I met not only locals but riders from many different states.

“motorcycles are completely out of place in our historic district”
Motorcycles should be and are allowed to travel the same city, state and federal highways that automobiles do. I’m retired and spend a good deal of my time touring the United States on my motorcycle. I enjoy traveling to the places that have made our home the country it is. I spent time in Charleston and enjoyed it.

You may wish to check some demographics of Harley-Davidson riders. I’m not sure of the income for a second rate journalist but I would venture that the income distribution curve for Harley-Davidson riders places a majority of them well above yours.
