Get Involved: Pint of Hope Pub Crawl

Park Circle businesses raise money for Lowcountry AIDS Services

Want to go out drinking, eat some of the best pizza in town, and feel good about it at the end of the night? Park Circle's bars and restaurants are here to help.

From 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, part of the money you spend at EVO, Madra Rua, Sesame, and several other North Charleston eateries will go to Lowcountry AIDS Services, which connects people in the tri-county area with HIV and AIDS to agencies that help them get housing, medication, nutrition, and financial assistance. The organization also provides free HIV testing daily at its office at 3547 Meeting Street Road.

Sean Ferneau, assistant to the director at LAS, says he had no particular fundraising goal in mind when he planned the event.

"Events like this remind the community that HIV and AIDS is not going away," he says. "It's in one sense that reminder and that awareness, but it's also a sense of celebration and hope."

Local bands The Defilers, The Generations, General Lee Speaking, The Keepers, and the V Tones will perform outside near participating restaurants throughout the night. There will also be an auction at the Meeting Place, at 1077 E. Montague Ave., for items including dinner for two at Fish restaurant, one month of boot camp training from Fly Dog Fitness, a private screening of any film at the Olde North Charleston Picture House (courtesy of Park Circle Film Society), and set props from the Showtime television series Queer As Folk.

Here's the complete list of participating bars and restaurants:

The Barbeque Joint

The Chart

Cork Neighborhood Bistro

Deja Vu II

Madra Rua Irish Pub

The Mill

Park Pizza Co.

Sesame Burgers and Beer
