Gene's Oktoberfest

When: Sun., Oct. 13, 12 p.m. 2013
Phone: (843) 225-4363
Price: $5
Pull your lederhosen out of your closet (they should be right next to your fishnet stockings and blow up dolls). It’s time for Oktoberfest. And what better place to celebrate than in one of Charleston’s oldest bars, Gene’s Haufbrau? Boasting an impressive beer selection with more than 180 different beers, they’ll have the beer covered, which is good since there’ll be a beer chugging contest for the ladies. The gents won’t be left out, as they can take their turn at the bratwurst eating contest. Party in the parking lot with German beers, seasonal beers, and food as well as live music with German band Hans Schmidt opening and Plow Ground headlining. Part of the profits will benefit the Tanzanian Education Foundation, so drink another beer for the kids. Gene’s general manager, Liam Tyrell, says Gene’s Oktoberfest is “the original Oktoberfest in Charleston. We’re Charleston’s oldest bar, we’ve been around since 1952, and we’re German-themed. It’s the ideal place to celebrate Oktoberfest.”
