Re: “THE GOOD FIGHT ‌ Postmortem on Election '06

Reality trumps rhetoric. Nationwide 55% of voters cast ballots for Democratic senators. The nation (excepting the Palmetto State) returns to the center. What this center wants is a balanced budget, not extravagant deficits. They want recognition of international interests considered in the flow of the world instead of the arrogant, self centered, undoubting, perfect image some of us have as the world's only arbiter of right, morality and progress. Under W, we have become irrelevant. The Saudis trade with the Koreans. The Indians and Singapore do the best science. China makes everything better and cheaper. None of them need our arrogance - they are satisfied just to sell us stuff and lend us money to buy it and laugh at us they put our dollars in the bank. The nation is tired of countrywide obsession with wedge issues - of gay marraige, abortion, right wingnut evangelism purporting to carry the only right message. The nation wants a time of "Live and Let Live". If what I'm doing isn't realy hurting you then leave me alone, thank you. What a wonderful morning the day after the election was as George Allen limped off into the dust following Cunningham, Santorum, Ney, Foley, DeLay, Libby, Abramoff and the rest. But we still have Ceips and Scarborough, don't we?
