Happy to live on James Island. "It's amazing what a difference a good education and catholic reading habits can make."

Re: “Few women have been elected to represent South Carolinians, could Lindsey Graham, of all people, change that?

Wait... I thought Lindsey Graham WAS a woman.

Re: “Mt. Pleasant school adopts program from organization that thinks family values groups are bigots

Me-thinks Bryan Crabtree is getting ready to run for public office. His screed is nothing more than a position paper. Watch this space for further developments.

Oh, and for the record, schools have always been tools for teaching values and specific points of view. Let's remember that the Judeo/Christian Bible (King James version, of course) was the mandatory textbook for all colonial schools--and used in the Southern U.S. until early in the 20th century.

The ubiquitous ‘McGuffey’s Reader’ was racist, nationalistic, and unapologetically anti-Semitic and yet used throughout the country from the mid-1800’s until the 1950’s (and remains the seminal textbook among many right-wing homeschoolers).

Until World War II, there was no such thing as a woman working outside the home (with the exception of the few major cities). During the war, the “Rosie the Riveter” myth was pervasive and women were all but compelled to work in support of the war effort. Once the war was won, the “Dick and Jane” of textbook legend saw their mother return immediately (and abjectly) to life as a doting mother and house-frau.

Conservative? No problem. Stupid? A little more difficult to tolerate.

Re: “Lowdown Oven taking over Andolini’s Folly Road spot

Me thinks Ron Liberte needs a good dose of Valium. Six-hundred sixty-five posts on the City Paper site, and little or nothing positive or affirming of anyone. If your "ex" was "whore." As her "ex", what does that make you?
