There’s a saying that runners do it longer. And in terms of the Charleston marathon, that’s true. If 26 miles is too much for you — and when isn’t it? — there’s also a half-marathon, 5K, or a bike ride. Or you could just cheer on the runners along the route, which runs from downtown to North Charleston High School. And of course there’ll be post-race festivities, including a street party at the finish, awards ceremonies, and live music by New Galaxy. Runners can sip on mimosas or beer and chow down on shrimp and grits and boiled peanuts after the race. On Sunday, the Charleston Marathon weekend ends with a 20-, 30-, or 60- mile bike ride starting at Mamie Whitesides in Mt. Pleasant. If you want to run, register by Wed. Jan. 15. Liz Alford, the race director, says, “If you can’t run, you can still participate by volunteering.”
