Folsom and Whistler visit the Gibbes 

New exhibits set to open Jan. 22

The Gibbes Museum of Art continues to keep things fresh with two new exhibits set to open on Fri. Jan. 22.

The Lure of the Lowcountry will be on view in the Main Gallery, featuring 16 large-scale mixed-media photos by Atlanta-based John Folsom. The works feature familiar local sites like Palmetto Bluff and Edisto Island as well as some farther afield, like Cumberland Island, Ga. His work is paired with 14 early Lowcountry landscapes from the Gibbes collection. Lure is on view through April 18.

Also beginning Jan. 22, Whistler’s Travels will be on view in the Rotunda. The exhibit include etchings and lithographs by James McNeill Whistler created during his excursions to the English countryside, France, Holland, and Venice, Italy. The exhibit is on view through May 16. The Gibbes is open Tues.-Sat. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m. Tickets are $9; $7 for seniors, students, and military; and $5 for children 6-12.
